PBP Projects move forward in 2021

It has been a busy time for Palm Beach Pictures (PBP) despite the restrictions and problems COVID 19 has placed on the entertainment industry.

Film and Television

Kamarada TV series Last year Peter Gawler completed writing the 4 part series. It was decided by Producers David Elfick and Luigi Acquisto (Abracadabra Films are Palm Beach Pictures partner in the venture) that we should expand the series to 6 hours. At present we are plotting the extended format while awaiting a response from several broadcasters.

Crystal Voyager The NFSA has completed the digital restoration of Crystal Voyager. It has already been booked for screenings at the Danish Film Institute in Copenhagen later this year. Two of our other titles digitally restored by the NFSA Newsfront and Starstruck are screening in Melbourne in the next few months.

Musicals

We currently have three musicals in active development.

Starstruck

Starstruck had a workshop with NIDA in 2018 and a full production with NIDA graduating students (10 performances) in 2019.

Currently Mitchell Butel and David Elfick are putting the finishing touches to the next draft of the show readying it for a commercial production. Starstruck the stage musical is being developed with Garry McQuinn of “Priscilla the Musical” fame.

Jungle Hideaway

Jungle Hideaway, an original musical for kids has completed rewrites by Yunyu Ong and David Elfick. The show has already conducted successful workshops in Sydney and Singapore. We are now looking to recording the score, which contains 18 original songs written by Peter Dasent and Yunyu Ong. Our development partner is Origin Theatrical.

Undercover

Writer Sarah Odillo Maher is adapting PBP’s film Undercover for the stage. The project is currently at a Treatment stage.

Development

Juice, a drama series centred in Byron Bay takes us on a wild ride though that socially turbulent decade that was the 70’s. Clare Sawyer has developed the treatment from an idea of David Elfick’s with Peter Gawler as script editor. With producer Mouche Phillips, Clare Sawyer is currently in discussions with key Australian female screenwriters to develop the series. Stay tuned…
