Shadows of the Peacock

(ECHOES OF PARADISE)
SYNOPSIS

Calm, conventional Maria, the perfect wife and mother, is thrown into haunting self-doubt by the death of her beloved father. His death forces Maria into a sharp assessment of her own life.

After discovering her husband George’s infidelity she escapes to the island of Phuket in Thailand to think things over.

There she meets Raka, a Balinese dancer and they begin a tentative relationship.

Raka lives in a spiritual limbo, always practising but never performing, always on the edge of becoming just another gigolo for visiting women tourists.

The holiday flirtation becomes a much deeper thing for both of them and finally they must choose between cutting themselves off from their past and starting a new life together or being responsible to the promises they have to keep.

“Wendy Hughes is swept up in an exotic tale of passion and love that catches fire between two tortured souls on he island of Bali… a sensuous elixir that’s a sure fire cure for the early summertime blues, the perfect prescription for an afternoon out of the hot spring sun.”
